Skillshare + Quirky

What better way to build a community then to educate them on how to submit ideas to make inventions. Quirky teamed up with Skillshare to help our online community to learn to sketch like an industrial designer. Skillshare is an online platform for creatives to teach a skill pertaining to their field, and I was asked to be the instructor to teach the course and help build the Quirky community. With thousands of followers and counting, my course is still considered a benchmark for the Skillshare platform. The class has drawn followers and continues to educate young inventors on how to tell a product story. The featured product was an item called Prune.

Prune

So what is Prune? Its A 2-in-1 gardening tool that combines the functionality of a hand-held shovel and a pair of shears in one elegant design. The spring-loaded, locking handle allows you to effortlessly transition from pulling weeds to sniping hedges in seconds.

A Quirky inventor many times over, Peter Wachtel, submitted the idea for Prune after realizing just how many tools were required to complete simple gardening tasks. It took 1,530 community influencers to bring it to life.

It was my role as a designer, to design it, show proof of concept, and prepare it for manufacturing so that it could be sold at retail.
