Product Launches

Every week, Quirky launched 3 new products to add to the digital portfolio. But each launch had to be a brand new innovation and unlike anything else on the market. Very quickly we had over 450+ products added to the portfolio and over 100+ for sale at our retailers. These weekly updates created buzz and mass interest drawing new customers and new members weekly. With the help of our online community, the product team designed each product with care. I was head of product launches. My role was to oversee all idea submissions, and work directly with the product team and community each week to make sure that we were making invention accessible.

Ohm

Ohm is a portable wireless speaker and charging dock in one. While you’re playing music on Ohm’s portable speaker, charge your Qi-compatible mobile device using its docking station or USB output.

Align

Where Other Staplers Can't Reach. While a standard stapler's reach is limited by its length, Align's detachable base enables a user to staple materials of any size, from posters to sheets of cardboard. To keep your desk uncluttered, you can always stick it to a magnetic chalkboard, whiteboard, or file cabinet. My role within this product was to give design direction, design development, and help with final revisions in preparation for manufacturing.

Rig

We reinvented the tie-down strap with Rig. Easy to attach cords is no fuss and saves time by allowing you to adjust from where ever you need to. Rig is an example of a launch that made it was to the retail shelves. See below the final product and instructions on how to use it.

We had the process down to a science. With a weekly Eval, we would pick three ideas for the team to design and show proof of concept. On a rotating schedule, three designers would tackle the mission creating idea sketches, 3D renders, prototypes, and then work directly with the creative team to create photorealistic images of the ideas and launch them into the digital world. The online community and retail partners then had the opportunity to support it and chime in if it was something we should move forward to manufacture. Each designer was not only responsible for the initial launch of a product, but also the design for manufacture. At times, our team members would be designing potentially 10 items simultaneously, and it was my job to make sure that each product made the cut.

There were hundreds of launches added to the site. The items ranged in various categories including appliances, home, electronics, toys, travel, and beauty.
